Back40 Land Services specializes in forestry mulching throughout Franklin and Williamson County, Tennessee. Our tracked forestry mulchers — equipped with Fecon cutting heads — are the most effective tool for clearing cedar, hardwood, and invasive brush on the challenging terrain that defines Williamson County's landscape.
Williamson County's western Highland Rim is characterized by rolling limestone ridges, steep slopes, and shallow bedrock — terrain where traditional dozer clearing causes serious erosion and leaves an unusable, scarred surface. Forestry mulching changes that equation entirely. Our tracked machines work the slopes that wheeled equipment can't, grinding vegetation down to a nutrient-rich mulch layer that protects the soil surface, suppresses regrowth, and eliminates the need for burn piles or debris hauling. You get a clean, cleared property without the environmental damage.
Eastern red cedar encroachment is the defining land management challenge in east Williamson County. The rolling pastureland from Nolensville through Triune and down toward Eagleville has lost thousands of acres of productive fescue and orchard grass to cedar over the past few decades. Back40's mulchers handle cedar up to 8–10 inches in diameter in a single pass — grinding trees, stumps, and root crowns together. For pasture reclamation projects, we typically follow the mulching pass with light surface scarification to prepare the seedbed, allowing for overseeding in the same visit.
Residential forestry mulching is also a major part of our Williamson County work. Wooded lots in Brentwood, Grassland, Leiper's Fork, and College Grove often have impenetrable understories beneath beautiful canopy trees. Our operators selectively mulch the undergrowth while preserving any trees you want to keep — leaving open, park-like wooded spaces that are dramatically more usable and visually appealing than a choked thicket.
Fence line clearing is another high-demand service in Williamson County. Cedar and multiflora rose grow aggressively along fence lines — damaging posts, providing cover for pests, and spreading seeds into adjacent pasture. We clear a clean corridor along fence lines, typically 10–15 feet wide, without disturbing the fence itself. The result lasts years longer than bush-hogging and dramatically reduces ongoing maintenance costs.
